They were walking, though Sherlock had described John's walking as shuffling due to the crutches, down the hallway when it happened.
Sherlock's speech stuttered a bit at the insult thrown at him and a troubled look found its way onto his face. However, the distraught look disappeared in a blink of an eye. John would have missed it if he hadn't been watching the other boy as he talked.
John stopped and shuffled more than turned to see who had said the word, and wasn't at all surprised to see Donovan and Anderson huddled together near Anderson's locker. Sherlock had continued to walk until he realized that John wasn't following him anymore and quickly turned back round to find out where he had gone but all he saw was John staring down Donovan.
“That wasn't very nice was it?” John asked Donovan.
Anderson let out a laugh that was more of a snort and a giggle before John turned his glare to the other boy.
Donovan just quirked an eyebrow. “What, now you're standing up for the freak? John I thought you were smarter than that. Only the freshies are actually in awe of him.” She turned her gaze to Sherlock and nodded at him. “I mean, just look at him. Even if he didn't stalk most of the school, he's nothing to look at and a right jerk besides.” She sneered a bit.
John didn't turn his head to look at his friend, his glare hardening a bit. He shuffled close to Donovan, well aware that the crutches really didn't do anything to make him look intimidating. “You're going to stop saying nasty things about Sherlock.” He said, injecting as much loathing and venom into his voice as he possibly could.
“Yea, and why should I do that?” She asked, looking more amused than intimidated.
“Because he's my friend and I wont stand for it.” John informed her, and almost tensed when he heard Sherlock's squeak of surprise at the word friend. He had to have known they were friend by now right? John had been following him around like a puppy for the past three weeks.
The hall had gotten eerily quiet then, and if John weren't on crutches, and Donovan weren't a girl, he was sure the hall would have been filled with people yelling “Fight” over and over again.
He shuffled away then and looked at all the people surrounding them. “I wont take it from any of you.” He said, narrowing his gaze to look at his classmates. “What's he ever done to most of you? And its not as if it isn't provoked if he does insult you. Honestly most of you deserve it.” He said. “Calling him stuff behind his back and making fun of him and being a dick to him when all he does is make an honest observation of what most of us are too dumb to see.” John shifted a bit on his crutches and started to continue his walk down the hallway. “Just because he's smarter than you doesn't mean that you all have to be such asses.” He muttered and continued to walk to class.
The bell rang, snapping the other students into attention and they all scurried around trying to get to class. Sherlock stood there, watching John then, his mouth a bit open and a dazed look on his face. John almost got a bit worried when he was actually able to pass Sherlock up, and then let out a rather mortifying squeak when he was tugged off balance by Sherlock grabbing his hand and yanking. “Sherlock I can't just follow you around like that.” He scowled, a bit distressed.
Sherlock looked impatient then and eyed the nearly empty hallway. There were a few stragglers near the end of the hallway and Sherlock looked near the corners of the hall, where the cameras were located. He muttered something about Mycroft and fixing before surging forward and pressing his lips against John's.
Sherlock's momentum carried them forward, and John's back was slammed against the lockers, making a loud noise in the empty hallway. John let out a small gasp of surprise and suddenly their tongues were sliding against each other and everything was perfect and he felt like he was being punched in the gut, but in a good way. John brought his hands up grab the lapels of Sherlock's ridiculous jacket and tried to pull him closer. Sherlock shifted and brought his leg in between John's who let out an small keening noise that would have normally brought a flush to his face but all he could think right now was moremoremore sherlock please more.
There was a laugh echoing down the hallway and Sherlock jerked back, his eyes wide and his mouth swollen in a way that had John swallowing back another moan.
“Not that.” John paused a bit. “Not that i'm complaining.” He said a little breathlessly. “Its, just, what brought that on?”
Sherlock rested his head against John's forehead. “No one's ever done that before.” He said, his eyes large and staring into John's.
John's brow furrowed a bit. “What? Stood up for you?” He asked, a bit angry on his friends behalf. Surely, Mycroft had, at least once?
“Called me a friend.” Sherlock said his eyes staring into John's.
John's jaw dropped a bit. “Never?” He said, and then shook his head. “Though, I think I'm a bit more than a friend.” He informed Sherlock with an easy smile. John was coming off his high though, and realized he had dropped his crutches and was still straining forward to hold on to Sherlock's lapels. His ankle was aching with pain and he almost collapsed when he let go of Sherlock's jacket.
Sherlock slipped his arms around John's waist to hold him up and gave him a small shy smile. “Yes, much more than a friend.” He murmured.
